On Wednesday, Nov 16th progress reports will be sent home.
On Thursday, we will be taking our 4 1/2 weeks test. It will cover all topics from the past 4 1/2 weeks. Students have been given a study guide to work on and it is due on Wednesday to review in class. Students will also have this week to bring home the daily quizzes that we have done to use as study materials as well. Topics this week...
This week, we are deepening our understanding of ratios and looking at multiple representation of ratios using double number lines and graphs to help solve problems. By the end of the week we will be learning about unit rates and comparing prices based on the unit rate. Calendar I finally got the calendar running so that you can view it without having to be signed into a google account. The calendar will list dates of test's, computer lab days, and online assignment due dates. Mathia X The goal for students this 9 weeks is to complete at minimum 5 hours on the Mathia X software. This breaks down to just a little more than 30 minutes a week. I hope everyone enjoyed their break!
Back to work we go! We have started our unit on ratios. This week we will be working on understanding ratio language, equivalent ratios, and different representations of ratios. (double number lines, tables, graphs) The next TenMarks assignment has been posted. Students will have two weeks to complete the assignment and a second chance will be available after the first week. Remember, the goal is 80% and above. I Topics we have covered: decimal operations, prime factorization, long division, LCM, GCF, fraction multiplication and division with models. Clarifications about online assignments:
I hope everyone enjoys this break! Next 9 weeks topics: Ratios, units of measure, percents, algebraic expressions and equations. Here are a few updates:
Students will be completing assignments online throughout the year through various programs. (Google Classroom, MathiaX, Study Island, and TenMarks) Assignments will not be given at the same time on different platforms, so it is very important for students to complete assignments on time when they are due so they don't get lost about what is due and when. I have reserved the computer lab for Wednesday's to allow students to work on whatever assignment is due that week if any. I will also be hosting an open lab on Wednesday mornings at 7:40. If more time is needed for a student to get work completed, it will be their responsibility to get the work done on their own time. I have two computers in my classroom for student use that are available during classwork/homework practice time.
We have been working on Decimals for the past week, using all four operations. We will have a test over decimal operations on Wed. Aug, 31. Moving forward, we will begin working with LCM/GCF, fractions, and ratio concepts.
Carnegie Learning and MathiaX This week we registered for access to our online textbook. Students can log in at home to complete work or to print pages if necessary. MathiaX is the software that correlates with our textbook. Students will be asked to complete assignments at home and during class time to gain extra practice with skills and concepts. TenMarks We will be using TenMarks, an online math program to provide your child with opportunities for additional math practice. On TenMarks, your child can practice and master math concepts one topic at a time. They can work on assignments I make, or choose to practice on their own, anytime. While they are practicing, your child will have access to hints if they get stuck, as well as a short video tutorial if they need more detailed explanation. I have set up your child with their own individual account. S/he can access TenMarks from any computer to continue working on the program at their own pace. From the teacher account, I can monitor and review your child's progress, assign work, and give them feedback. From the parent account, you can monitor and review their progress, too. Please contact me if you would like the parent account information for your child. It has been a wonderful first week back! Parents as a reminder, you may want to send a water bottle to school for our physical activity time. Students have 15 minutes before lunch and 20 more minutes during Math or ELA classes everyday. This week's topics include:
